With the 1952 publication of Perls, Hefferline and Goodman’s Gestalt Therapy: Excitement and Growth in the Human Personality (PHG) came the excitement and growth of a new way of practicing psychotherapy and a new way of being in an organization. The New York Institute was born. At 65 years young, we are still going strong and our membership now includes people from around the globe!
Come join in the celebration on March 3, 2018 from 9:30-5:00pm at the LGBTQ Center on West 13th street in Manhattan!
NYIGT has been supporting Gestalt therapists these 65 years by providing a foundation for radical creative adjustment in
an ever-changing culture and socio-political field.
Through open panel discussions we will explore how the roots of Gestalt therapy, the civil rights, feminist and LGBTQ revolutions, and our own unique histories are alive in NYIGT’s teaching and learning philosophy that intertwines theory and experience. We will experiment with the excitement of our birthday celebration and the excitement of Gestalt therapy that has led us to expand around the world.
Join us for this theoretically grounded, experiential day of exploring our creatively alive and radically evolving teaching, practicing and living. Through interactive panels, small and large group processing and experiments, the people present will experience their own alive sense of themselves, both personally and professionally, supported by Gestalt therapy’s evolving theory and within the living history of the NYIGT, radically and creatively alive for 65 years.
We continue to evolve with awareness that gestalt therapy exists within a broader therapeutic community. As such, we cordially invite both NYIGT members and non-members, trainees in gestalt therapy, allies of gestalt therapists, as well as those who are interested in simply exploring who they, and we, are.
