Private practice in psychotherapy (for almost 30 years) has been built on a foundational training as a gestalt therapist with the New York Institute for Gestalt Therapy, of which I am a full member. Most recent training has been in trauma work with the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute, founded and directed by Pat Ogden, PhD. I am presently working toward Level 3 certification in their Trauma Treatment program: having completed Level 1 of their “Training for the Treatment of Trauma” in 2011-2012 with Janina Fisher, PhD, as well as their Level 2 Training on “Attachment, Development and Trauma” with Lana Epstein, LICSW, in 2013-2014.
My experience includes work as a trainer & supervisor with Administration for Children’s Services for 14 years doing trainings in every area of Child Welfare, including: being certified by NYC and New York State as a trainer of the Caseworker Common Core and the Supervisory Common Core; becoming a specialist in Family Team Conference Facilitation and Safety & Risk Assessment; as well as trainings in multiple areas of related topics including Solution Based Treatment, Family Systems work, Domestic Violence, Substance Abuse, Effective assessment of Physical and Sexual Abuse of Children & Cultural Competency.
My supportive supervision style is consistent with a gestalt approach of mutual collaboration in the here and now, while also supporting a comprehensive assessment that includes developmental & trauma history, cultural awareness, and examining transference/countertransference influences in the client/therapist relationship.
