Bio

Mary Lou Schack PhD

is a clinical Psychologist who has practiced Gestalt therapy for over 40 years. She was trained in Gestalt Therapy by Jim Simkin, Isadore From (also her therapist), Erv Polster, and Laura Perls. Other significant training was with Donald Nathanson (Shame), Milton Erickson (hypnotherapy), Harville Hendrix (couple therapy), and Francine Shapiro (EMDR).

She began offering Gestalt training in the Philadelphia area in the late ‘70’s, and with three colleagues designed the Gestalt Therapy Institute of Philadelphia’s training program in 1982, where she is currently Executive Director and Principal faculty.

Over the years, she has presented and spoke at many workshops, conferences and residentials in the US and Europe. She practices in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., and Kennett Square, Pa. where she provides individual and couples therapy, and supervision groups for therapists.   Her current theoretical interests include traumatic process and anxiety, mutuality and attachment, as well as the development of resilience.
