Margherita Spagnuolo Lobb

Bio

Psychologist, Gestalt psychotherapist and Supervisor, founder and director of the Istituto di Gestalt HCC Italy (Siracusa, Palermo, Milan), since 1979. She has introduced the work of the most relevant international Gestalt therapists to the Italian audience, and has developed an internationally spread relational model of Gestalt therapy and psychopathology. She considers the phenomenological and aesthetic soul of Gestalt therapy in a field perspective, and now she is addressing her interest to reciprocity. Following an hermeneutic line from Perls, Hefferline, Goodman (1951) and Isadore From’s teaching, to Erving and Miriam Polster’s approach, and to her teaching/learning experience at the New York Institute for Gestalt Therapy, she integrates recent studies on neurosciences and infant research (especially Daniel Stern) in a relational method that considers the reciprocity of intentional movements of psychotherapist and client. Her study is supported by an international research activity and clinical concepts like: Aesthetic Relational Knowledge, field, polyphonic development of domains, now for next, dance reciprocity. She has edited seven books, authored two books and hundreds of papers and chapters on various theoretical and clinical aspects of Gestalt therapy. Her book, The Now-for-Next in Psychotherapy. Gestalt Therapy Recounted in Post Modern Society (2013), is available in 8 languages. She is the director of the Advanced International Training Programs in Gestalt Therapy Field Approach to Development and Psychopathology, of training Programs for Gestalt Supervisors and of Summer Programs for Psychotherapists. She is Past President and Honorary Member of the European Association for Gestalt Therapy (EAGT), Founder and Honorary President of the Italian Association for Gestalt Psychotherapy (SIPG), Past President of the Italian Federation of Recognized Gestalt Training Institutes (FISIG), of the Italian Federation of All Psychotherapy Methods (FIAP). She is a Full Member of the New York Institute for Gestalt Therapy (NYIGT), of the Society of Psychotherapy Research (SPR), of Society for Gestalt Theory and its Applications (GTA), of the Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy (AAGT). In August 2018, in Toronto, she has received the Lifelong Achievement Award from the Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy (AAGT).

She is Main Editor of the Gestalt Therapy Book Series (www.gestaltitaly.com) and of the scientific Journal Quaderni di Gestalt (since 1985).

At the end of December, she edited the issue 2020/2 of the journal “Quaderni di Gestalt” entitled “Gestalt psychotherapy during COVID-19.” Most of the articles in this issue originated during the Pandemic and represent our effort as Gestalt psychotherapists to be aware of this very difficult situation and to find a creative adjustment to the virus and the changes it has brought with it.
