Bio

Beatrix Wimmer, psychologist, psychotherapist, trainer, supervisor and coach.

I have studied Psychology at the University in Innsbruck and Vienna, Austria and started my professional life in the area of treatment of substance misusers. Following from that I started my training in Gestalt therapy and over the years have specialised in trauma therapy and treatment of eating disorders.

For many years I have been working in women’s counselling and psychotherapy centres and since more than 20 years I am running my private practice in Vienna.

Currently I am president of EAGT and member of EAGT “Committee of Professional Competencies and Qualitative Standards” having been instrumental in developing the document on professional competencies. https://www.eagt.org/joomla/images/Downloads/PCQS/PC&QS-competencies.pdf

I am vice president of the Austrian Association for Gestalt Therapy, hold membership within the Austrian Association for Psychotherapy and hold of the “European Certificate for Psychotherapy” ECP.

I have authored articles on Gestalt therapy and co-edited the book “Women in Gestalt Therapy. Autobiographical Reflections and Future Prospects in Contemporary Interviews” in 2016.

I am trainer on the Gestalt Therapy training program of “Gestalt in Nepal” www.gestaltinnepal.com

and at the IKP -Zürich, Switzerland www.psychotherapie-ikp.com

Since a few years I am conducting an experiential workshop in Gestalt therapy at the annual conference in Bad Gleichenberg, Austria. http://www.seminargleichenberg.at

Privately I have founded the NGO “Volksopernviertel 1938”. Our aim is to commemorate the victims of the NS-regime in Austria in our very own neighbourhood here in the 9th district in Vienna. We started with a project commemorating the 26 persons who fell victim to the Nazis in the house where I live and have my psychotherapy practice, installing a “Stele” in front of this house.

Last year in April 2018 we had a ceremony with Eric Kandel, winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine Physiology in 2000, opening the commemorative plaque on the house where he used to live as a child with his family. He was forced to flee the country in 1938 together with his brother right after the “November – Pogrom” building a new life in New York, where he still lives.
