Bio

Piotr Mierkowski, MA Dip Psych, UKCP registered is a psychotherapist, supervisor and international psychotherapy trainer with over thirty years of clinical experience in the NHS, voluntary sector and private practice in London (UK). Born in Poland, his background is in psychology and neuroscience, he studied at University of Warsaw before moving to the UK in the mid-1980s.

He has considerable training in body therapy, couples therapy and the many years’ experience of working with gender, sexuality and relationship diverse clients many of whom are also part of another racial/ethnic minority. Areas of his clinical expertise include relationships, life transitions, creativity, sexuality, love and loss. As a clinician working mostly in the second language, Piotr is interested in the reverberations of cultural and linguistic cross-cultural phenomena and how they impact the therapeutic process. He has translated the seminal text of Gestalt therapy into Polish.

Graduate of London Metropolitan University and the Gestalt Centre London, where he was later member of the board of directors. He has been a Gestalt Centre London’s visiting tutor for many years, delivering amongst others the advanced clinical seminars for students of the Practitioner Programme.

In addition to his private practice in London, he has been actively involved in the work of many different Gestalt organisations and training institutes in the UK and Poland. IAAGT Board Member and former Publicity Officer and Newsletter Editor for the UK Association for the Gestalt Practitioners. At present, he offers individual and couple therapy as well as individual and group supervision, and short-term training programmes online for Gestalt therapists in the UK and abroad.
